A HODGE PODGE POST

Well, well, now I know the best distraction tactic for a sickly Nunu is actually an Indonesian kiddy mini series called Kangen Rindu 1/2 Mati, purportedly a spin off of the famous movie My Heart. Must be the cute abang-abang and kakak-kakak cinta monyet storyline. I've been pestering her to take her fever medication and fussing over her body temperature when she irritatedly told me to "go play computer".

It's also funny nowadays that she recognizes an 'Endon' song that's playing on the radio. Sikit-sikit cinta, cinta. And she would ask me the title of every single song, and I'd better know the answer coz if I don't, all hell breaks loose and she'll scream at me until I make up a title of the song.

So, what else is new with the girl? Talking to her is an absolute delight, I say she's a pro now at conversing coherently (in Malay mainly, if she speaks in English she makes it sound like she's speaking in a classroom, so fake), although sometimes she can tersasul a bit. Like davila for vanilla, and pesotong for sepotong, those kinda things. Ouh, listening her to talk back at you is absolute horror sometimes, the smart aleck. Although, it was funny at the time when she told off her father that his breath was stinkier than hers. Hehe. Smart gal.

And what's new with the girl's momma, you ask? Well, if it's anybody's concern, I'm still struggling with my personality makeover, but the self image upgrade is easier than I initially thought.

Probably the few pounds lost during ramadhan was a welcoming surprise, and suddenly I'm more comfortable in my own skin to slip into more current attire (you may not agree, but I say current, not fashionable ;p) I've taken interest in better fitting jeans, cottony soft and loose T-shirts (and I don't have to look for them at the men's department or the maternity line now that I know that factory outlets offer larger sized garments for ladies!) and nike casual shoes, a pre-university look that I never thought I would backtrack to.

I'm taking better care of my health and skin (for which I've receive compliments now, something I wouldn't have dreamed of 15 years ago) and I'm even experimenting with *gasp!* make-up! Y'know, liquid foundation, eye shadows, eyeliner, the works. And ooh, mascara, how I hate wearing mascara, but I still put it on for inexplicable reasons. In the words of my Kelantanese grandma, dok jangok (loosely translated as busy preening and primping)

But the most unbelievable thing I did was *drumroll* wearing the selendang style hijab in public! Great gosh almighty, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing this if you told me to a couple of days ago, reason being my dongga head obviously. Funny how I used to shun showing my massive forehead and wide cheeks by manipulating my hijab in perfectly 'concorde-like' angle possible, that in the event of failure, such disappointing and unruly 'kelepet' (the folds at the sides of the hijab) would warrant a declaration of a 'bad tudung day' or the having the paranoia of tudung malfunction all day long.

I don't look half as bad as I thought, do I? To face the big bad judgemental world in all my dongga glory. Do I?

Aku rase hang memang camtu dari sekolah dulu.... but correct me if I'm wrong =]

As for my own reason not to wear selendang style hijab in public, it's just because I don't use contact lenses, and my glasses are a bit kengkang, so kire tak lawa la. Kukukuku :P

Anyway, I agree totally to Vickram's comment. After this letak la gambar hang main netball ke kan.. haha =]
