CHANGES IN THE WIND

There's something different in the air today in this little island state of mine. I guess this is what the wind of change feels like.

Again, I totally missed the boat, the cab, the train and the flight altogether this time around. People wanna bash me on the head when I told them I missed the deadline to register (ah, korang asyik kempen pergilah mengundi pergilah mengundi, ada korang announce bila deadline nak register undi?) which I feel totally bummed out about since I'm not the same apathetic self I was four years ago. I'll promise I'll vote next time, okay? Jangan le marah.

Unlike a couple of years ago, I understand now why campaigners go all out littering the whole place with banners, posters and structures (funny, why I never learn all this things in SPU206 Kerajaan dan Politik Malaysia, ah?) What I enjoyed most was watching in amusement the bombardment of laughable ads and in-your-face campaign tactics and how some people were so excited about the election, they said it almost feels like raya.

Things were hot and happening alright at my kampung (Pak Lah's constituency mah) but I had a lot on my mind and my hands during the weekends. Spending almost the whole Friday with Nunu completely drained me from having any critical and analytical thoughts of exercising my rights for the country or anything remotely patriotic.

Nunu's babysitter had to leave early to go back to her kampung to vote, so I had to bring her to lunch where she had her 'fasta' and 'sherry cake'. I tell ya, I've never been this slack before and let Nunu go wild with her lunch in a public place like this and totally dirty her clothes. No bibs, no napkins. For once I figured we both should have a nice time together without having to worry about how to get those stains off.

No regrets, we enjoyed each others' company that day and I was so happy to see her so happy. After lunch we dropped by McDonalds and I let her play at the indoor play area for a good hour and eat oreo McFlurry.

Now, anyone has any idea how to get those tomato sauce stains off? I've tried clorox and vanish. No luck :(

Anyway, back to the story. On election day, as I was expecting some very important visitors (and one uninvited visitor, thanks for coming uncle T.O.M! There's no better time to tell me I have a leaky basement), I was more concerned about changing the state of my messy home than changing the political state of my country.

At the same time, I had to face a Picky Monster who performed a little hunger strike, survived on only milk and cookies, refused afternoon nap, exhausted by sunset, whined and clung onto me until 10.30 and had her batteries fully charged by 11 pm. While most people were glued in front of their TVs and PCs watching the reformative tidal waves hitting the nation, the tyrannical little PM wanted to watch this show even though that green feller freaks her out once in a while.

But I must say, when Martian whispered in my ears afterwards that the ruling party has lost its two-thirds majority after Nunu and I finally crashed for the night, I could have asked him for a victory dance! Alas, if only I could open my eyes! All I could muster was a weak thumbs up!

So that was how my weekend went, hardly any different from any other weekend, obviously this post is not meant to be a political commentary!

All in all, Nunu and I had some fun with the posters and banners this election season. She knows what to say when I ask "What party is green and white?"

"PASSSSS!" she answers.

"Red rocket?"

*some inaudible mumble that sounds like 'topi' but close enough!*

addendum 11/3/08 2.51 pm: I've just received some good news! Wahhh so syiok! That means I don't have to pay that parking offence saman I got last month! Wohooo! What's next ah? Penang bridge toll abolished? :D
