HEART OF ROCK

I remember, many many years ago, a friend told me that I have no taste in music. I didn't disagree with her.

In my teens, being the plain jane that I was with a dull personality (but secretly harboring a wicked & twisted mind) I don't have the same affinity to the kind of music the popular girls liked to listen to at the time. I mean, they had Blur, Oasis, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam & Nirvana (to name a few) blasting from the radio, while I quietly listened to Boyz II Men & Color Me Badd on my walkman, hehe.

For someone who grew up listening to oldies (and thinks that Simon & Garfunkel were the best musical duo ever), knew most of Ms Carey's songs (circa 1990's, before the slutty image) by heart , openly declared that she's a fan of one ex-blond pop princess, I bet I would leave many agape by confessing that my all time favourite song is "If You Could Only See" by Tonic.

I saw the video for the first time a few days ago on MTV, and sadly found that the video disappointed me a lot. Something like what "Smooth" music video did to me the last time. It kinda killed the enigmatic attraction of the song for me, so I trolled on youtube a bit and found this excellent Xmen video. Baru selera sikit makcik tengok.

I can't offer an explanation. I don't remember the lyrics entirely, much less understand them, and I don't know a thing about the band, but somehow the song stirs something in me. Everytime I hear it on the radio, it jolts me and evokes inexplicable feelings. Heck, I can even hear my own heart breaking to smithereens.

I found myself in a dark & barren place, feeling beautiful but alone, desperately wretched but at the same time ecstatic to the point of delirium.

The only other song that can make me feel simultaneously hysterical & depressed is Live's "Turn My Head".

urgh... yeah sometimes videos can kill the passion you feel for the blardy song. bosan sungguh.

and i wasn't left "agaped" coz...you see... my favourite heart-wrenching song is "Time is running out" by Muse (are YOU left agaped now..? hehee), so I try very hard not to EVER watch the music video coz i know it'll ruin things. really. it'll kill it!
