MY MARTIAN WANTS A BOWLING GLOVE

So I asked him this morning, what he'd like for his birthday (which is tomorrow! Yikes!). I know it's inappropriate to ask the birthday-person (I don't think the term birthday boy is quite apt) what he wants as a gift, but being married to that person, you tend to somewhat lose some aspects of good manners.

Expectably, everything in his wishlist is bowling related. For those who didn't know, my husband is on a crazy roll for bowling. Crazy, because he spends almost every night at the bowling alley, either 'practising' (he doesn't use the word playing) or coaching the under-15 team (he's just been appointed coach under Penang's National Sports Council). Crazy, because he spends an awful lot of money and time on this hobby, and crazy, because it's about time he wins a major tournament by now!

It's also madness because as a NSC coach, he has just received two brand new balls plus accessories and a trolley bag too (so he doesn't hafta lug the heavy bag around anymore, and I don't hafta massage his shoulders that often). What, in heaven's name, does he need another glove for?

So I pressed him, "Don't you think you'd rather like a, say, Snails shirt, maybe? It's pretty functional." And cheap. I know, I went to Parkson yesterday and it's on sale, below RM50. But I know he doesn't want another shirt. He has a 2 closetfuls of them. He doesn't need another bottle of fragrance (he's a walking perfume counter, y'know) and he's not a gadget freak too. So anything that involves techie stuff and tiny buttons are out of the question.

He didn't say anything. So I dropped the whole issue and went about getting ready for work. He should get the idea that he's not getting anything expensive from me. He already knows I need to buy Nunu a cot and perhaps a high-chair.

But the birthday person still deserves a gift, and in a sudden brilliant moment I think of a bathrobe. Perhaps a personalized one, like this. If I can find a nice one at Parkson today for under RM50 maybe I can throw in some slippers too.

Someone please tell me I'm not making a huge mistake here?

Well... I think a new bathrobe is ALWAYS nice to get (I know I need one!)... but men are weird. Once they get obsessed with a specific hobby ('sport' seems to0 generous for bowling. :-P), that's all they think about. Maybe get him some bowling gloves and another bowling related small thing now and that use the bathrobe idea for later?? Oooh, Nunu's ready for a high chair?

1. his birthday is the same as my father's! tomorrow
2. "he has just received two brand new balls" eh? LOL
3. he's not a gadget freak - lucky you!
4. he's a bowling addict & coach -- COOL! talk about cool careers! (what's his highest score?)
5. personalised gifts is a good idea in my opinion. Puan Mama Sarah, as our anniversary gift, gave me a personalised stethoscope, which i treasured. maybe a personalised gift to do with his line of work?
6. like a personalised ball/personalised balls perhaps?

Hey, Aunty Anne, if you're going to get the personalised bathrobe and slippers, don't forget to get him the pipe and a copy of some classic novel like War & Peace or something. :D

Oh dear, if one is not married to a techie, she's married to a some sort of a sport freak, errr (is that word to much?) let's change it to addict.

why ah? why?

tengoklah kita wanita, senang sahaja. banyak present boleh dihadiahkan.

go get him personalised bowling glove then. susah2 sangat, sulam je sendiri.

although he would say it's the thought that counts...but better get that gloves. because you will feel guilty after giving him that robe only and ended up buying the gloves also. hehe. so save $$$ to buy the robe and get the gloves instead.

guess what? bapak aniq's bday is also this mth! he has hinted numerous times on a particular pair of oakleys he's been eyeing. not cheap leh! hmphh.

on the bright side, it is also the same time as our anniversary, which means present for mak aniq too! *rubs hands and flips tiffany catalogue*

anyway, are bowling gloves costly? i wish i could get the husband to take up such hobbies that require physical exercise. myopic martian must be fit! :S

mama nabi, i want to get him a warm fuzzy bathrobe so tht he'll feel warm & fuzzy when he thinks about me everytime he wears the robe :) I doubt he'll feel the same if he wears the glove. It IS quite expensive (and he has such expensive taste in EVERYTHING) and other bowling small related things? Hmmm, even those glue-like substance they wear on their thumbs (to minimise friction) is costly!

mynn,
1. ya lor. Hepi bday to Sarah's atuk. Moga pjg umur & murah rezeki (wht a lame wish huh?)
2. I KNEW i'm gonna get ribbed for that statement!! LOL
3. Every guy is a freak one way or another (PMS is right!)
4. The coaching is partime - alhamdulillah good money also. Score? Hehe no idea. Not so impressive I recall
5. He's an English -cum-(dunribmeforthis!) discipline teacher. Yup, I can imagine him whacking a poor lad's buttocks with his personalized whipping cane I lovingly purchase for him. An imprint of his initial on the kid's butt will be oh-so-cool LOL!

ajab dearie, i was envisioning the same thing too, but that image is realistically replaced by him pushing the heavy gates of our home in the mornings (wearing the robe of course). Most of the time he does that in his PJ shirt & a towel wrapped around his waist (very short shorts underneath - not good for the kampung folks if they saw this)

Ha ha, tak tahu.. Anne, pikirkan dua..
