HEY PRESTO!
Hehey, I made mac & cheese!
Was suddenly possesed by the spirits of Nigella and dropped by Kedai Kome for some macaroni. Got back home with a baby on my hip, flipped open the recipe book and nodded in conviction that I had all the ingredients.
1. 8 ounces elbow macaroni, boiled & drained
*cut open the pack with teeth, spilling a good handful of mac on the floor, dumped a few handful into a small pot, added tap water & turn on stove. Looked at pack - cooking time: 3 min. Ran to the bedroom, put Nunu on the playmat and took a 3 minute bath. Ran back to the kitchen & turned off stove. Drained mac. Turned on the oven to pre-heat.
2. In saucepan over medium low heat melt 4 tablespoons butter; blend in a tbsp of flour and seasonings, stirring until smooth and bubbly. Gradually stir in 300ml of freshmilk; cook and stir until thick and smooth.
*turned on stove again, heard Nunu screaming, ran to bedroom & picked her up, ran back to kitchen, dunked a good blob of butter, looked for measuring cup, remembered that I had none, took Nunu's feeding bottle and pour in milk - shucks, max 240ml lah sial! - pour the whole bottle into the pot, stirstirstir, peer over the recipe book, alamak flour first lah! Toss in flour, and... seasonings? A pinch of salt, a dash of white & black pepper & what else? A sprinkle of mixed italian herbs, OK or not?
3. Stir in 4 oz grated cheddar cheese.
*Took the packet out of fridge. Alamak, mozarella can or not??? Dumped half a packet into the pot. Stirstirstir like mad while refraining Nunu from touching the hot stuff*
4. Place cooked drained macaroni in a buttered 3-quart casserole
This one I did exactly as instructed. Husband came in, gave a cheeky comment something like I cook only once a month, and suggested I put slices of sausages together in the mix. Nunu cried. Well, move your butt einstein and help me fry those darn sausages!
5. Pour sauce over macaroni and gently mix to blend. Top with crispy breadcrumbs. Bake at 375° for 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
*dumped in sausages and cheese mixture, omit the crumbs, turned the oven dial ikut suka hati aku*
The taste? Erm....
Hehey, I made mac & cheese! I mean, who could screw up mac & cheese right???
Wait a minute, Susan Meyers did.

Mummy says Aunty Susan has a lot of things on her mind. That's why she's always screwing things (and people) up. :D
You sure it wasnt Mac and Poo?? :p
dith!!
looks delicious.
but susan mayer was one desperate housewife!
gonna get those ingredients and cook for myself next weekend!
Sorry Mama Nunu for the above comment. I was high after looking at the Youtube clip on Siti and Datuk K, hehe.
Thanks Mynn for being a good coment police to me! :p
My Mamma been trying to make me eat Mac N Cheese but with no success so far coz I just don't like the cheese smell. I think I might go for Mac N Curry instead .. anyone has a recipe ?
Nak sikit!!!!!!!!!!
ajab, aunty thinks susan's klutziness is very endearing. there's a poll going around sometime back, asking women which one of the DH characters they most relate to, well I choose Susan. coz. I'm. a. klutz. too. obviously.
dith, those weaners are pretty dubious looking, huh? i have only 1 free hand mah, thts why potong tebal2 tu...
err.. found what u're looking for yet?
mynn, welkam2! The taste, err hubby & tok said they're delicious, but I'm afraid they're juz saying that to make me feel good
mama sarah - i'm juz as desperate as susan, believe me! as for the recipe, follow the instructions - jgn hentam like i did. original mac & cheese are juz mac & cheese, but some ppl hates the bland taste & add tomatoes, onions, meat etc. to add flavour. Maybe u can take a better pic of your dish than i did!
alya, the malay version is "macaroni bakar" u know. can add in minced meat sauted in curry powder & other 'pekakas'. replace cheese with eggs. i think my mom has the recipe. will post that up for u OK?
ucue - meh lah Penang!!!
Eh! You and Mummy so much alike. She's also a klutz. But don't tell her I told you! Shhhh!!!
She's a Tauran, by the way. You know, Taurus? Bull? Bull in a china shop?
On another note, I've always wondered why a lot of Malays don't like the taste of cheese. Why's that so?
i'm such a klutz i even screwed up Susan's surname. It's Mayer, right?
Ajab, where u get all this idea huh? Bull in a china shop all...?
Eh ye ke tekak melayu tak bleh terima the taste of cheese? Never come across anyone who doesn't. Even Nunu's nenek asked me to bake her another casserole of mac n cheese yesterday.
