BABIES ON BOARD

One of the things that I do not like to see is parents endangering the lives of their children while on the road. Especially those riding motorbikes.

Part of me feels sympathy for them for having no other means of transportation for their children (the bus service is terrible here). My heart goes out for them, tired looking fathers rushing their kids in loose helmets to school, or mothers riding on pillion with clinging babies holding on to their dear lives, while I silently say a prayer to God for blessing me that I never had to go through hard times & always had the luxury of a car to get me anywhere.

But most of them do not practice safety precaution! And I feel like going up to them and knock on their helmets at their selfish acts.


Please lah kak, put her in between you and the bigger kid & ask him to hold her tight.


And get her a HELMET!!!

There was a campaign a while ago, urging parents to buckle up their kids & promoting children's helmets. I wonder what went wrong with that ad?

You see, I do not entirely agree with the approach the government came with up with for some of their floppy campaigns, but I find the road safety programs pretty good. However, do Malaysians comply? Hardly. I wonder if stiffer fines & harsher law enforcement will do any good for us.

Perhaps I'm being preachy. I have no right to judge these people, some might say. Maybe I'm missing something and if I were in their shoes, I would do the same thing.

In fact, I might be accused of endangering Nunu's life right now for not seating her at the back of car, in accordance to standard children safety regulations (no no, not in Malaysia... sini semua Boleh).

I can be defiant, I can argue that my car doesn't have an air bag & that Nunu is safer beside me that at the back of the car. Maybe I will still take this for granted until I come to my senses, or until Malaysia mandates baby car safety rules.

I'm one of them unfortunately, with my 'tidak apa' attitude.
