This is probably stale news, but I think it's still worth a shot. Was flipping through some women's magazines the other day and loooookit waht I foooooooound...
Girls (and boys - OKlah I won't leave you out), introducing Malaysia's first astronaut (first candidate actually), Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, 34, the Chosen One, HUKM medical doctor, part time model & co-business owner of the popular Rebung restaurant.
Yeaaaaaah, I know *passing wet tissues to wipe off the drools*
Hubba hubba *sighs*swoons*faints*
He was chosen out of 12,000 applicants and passed all physical, mental & medical tests with flying colours. I'm not sure whether they went on with the online vote. But if they did, I'm not surprised he got chosen.
How does it feel to be a 'backup'? Pak Lah tak pandang pun kat you....
Oh, the 3rd person from the left is Dr. Faiz, the second candidate. He could still be in it, hokay. I read somewhere that Yuri Gagarin was a backup too. And did you know that both of them have signed a contract to NOT get married until 2008???
Well, I have nothing against Malaysia spending millions on this project.
But here's where it got really tacky. Can u imagine him making teh tarik in space for a physics experiment? You gotta be kidding me! If that's not enough, they're gonna introduce some Malaysian cuisine to the Russians *slaps forehead*
All this in the name of Malaysia the Bolehland and "bringing Malaysian customs to the attention of a worldwide audience". Instead of coming up with a mind-blowing, earth shattering research, why not just conduct a mini demonstration instead that is so close to our hearts (and tummy) and try to pass it off as a valid scientific experiment.
I'm sure he's gonna execute the 'tea-pulling' ceremony with his megawatts sparkling pearlies straining his jaw when he's actually wishing he can roll his eyes in disgust instead and wondering what has he done in his lifetime to be condemned to this publicity stunt.
I'm not sure what to think. Is it a 'cheap' experiment, or an expensive 'experiment'?
Brilliant. Just brilliant. People will laugh, but they will take notice of us, Malaysia.

"Mamak! Teh tarik satu, kurang manis, ah!!" Muahahaha!! :D
On a more serious note, it would be interesting to see how he's gonna solat in space (would he be the first to do it?). I mean, when he's floating about weightless in the space craft, how's he gonna do it? Would he be tethered to the floor of the space craft? Or strapped to his seat? How's he gonna sujud?
Interesting right?? That would certainly interest me more than some silly teh tarik stunt.
husband anne!!! report report.
moby
i hope the other astronauts dont get explosive diarrhoea from his sambal tumis or belacan.
also, kalau tak boleh sujud maybe boleh isyarat2 kepala or kelip2 mata....
Kak Anne, my first comment in your blog!! :D
Personally I have nothing against sending our own people to the space despite the cost our govt has to pay (there was no mentioning of the amount involved right?) As long as it can benefit us, ok. But buat teh tarik and roti canai kat space, I think that's just plain s****d. Banyak lagi la benda yang berfaedah he can do up there.
Oh no Muhaimin, now you mentioned about explosive diarrhoea from sambal tumis, I can't help but imagine how are the rest of the astronauts going to survive the smell?? Haha. What's more with the belacan? They will die la surely from the smell of belacan alone.
Moby, you also has raised a very interesting issue there. How is he going to solat? Maybe ade rukhsah that he can adopt, tunggu je la ulama' keluarkan statement about this.
P/s Kak Anne, your Nunu is so cute :D
hi naja, welkam welkam! Tq for the compliment, nanti naja nye baby k.anne doakan kiut miut mcm teletubby ok :)
moby, actually there has been discussion regarding solat, but he wasn't the 1st muslim to do so coz the 1st muslim in space was an 'anak raja' mesir mana ntah.
mynn, martian keeps Tata Young wallpaper in his mobile! Lagi teruk
That 'anak raja' solat in space or not? Or he k.i.v until he came back to earth? Hehe! :D
i notice the malaysians like to do these kind of stuffs....but really, me and my fren were discussing months back what they will actually ask their astronauts to do in space and making teh tarek was one of them! the world is definitely gonna notice malaysia...hehehehe.
(btw...i read somewhere the astronaut got gf already lah....hehehee)
moby, that I dono hehe
ibu aisyah, we are THAT predictable heh?
I read abt her gf too, so she kena tunggu until 2008 loorrrr...
Cute macam teletubbies takpe tapi tak nak la ada tentacles. Hehehe
Sape anak raja mesir tu Kak Anne? I know Anousheh, the Iranian-born US millionaire who just came back from space tu pon Muslim but not sure about how she performed solat di atas sana tu.
Dah buat kuih raya ke? Brape banyak baju raya Nunu tahun ni? Ni first time raya ngan Nunu ke? Banyak pulak soalan hahaha
Ohh can I add u to my blogroll? :D
apasal takleh lak! BOLEHHHHH!
The most successful man in Malaysia? A(Medical?) Doctor... a model.. a business man.. an astronaut.. FUYOOO.. he has a very impressive resume I would say...
Why don't they just send a mamak stall out there? and open a branch on the moon? surely other 'beings' from God-knows other planets or galaxy would stop by to have a bite.. baru la Msia Boleh.. (surely one mamak would have to stay up there).
hubba hubba is right.... *snatches tissue from anne*
i'd like to do some experimenting of my own with him up there... ho ho! :pp
hi dyanna, welkam! Impressive hor. Act he's studying to become orthopedic surgeon. Funny u thought of him as m'sias most successful. I juz thought of him as m'sia's best catch ;p
u know what? setting up a mamak stall in space is a brilliant idea, but somehow u must come up with ur own technology to be able to do that, which M'sia is not quite ready for yet methinks!
hana! moby's plane s** guide got into ur head issit?! LOL
Anne, don't her any ideas hor! :P
I meant to say "give her". See lah, all this talk about space and "special guides" has gotten to me. Selamat hari raya, maaf zahir batin!
everybody go check out moby's plane guide, hoookay??? hehehe
selamat hari raya in advance to u too!
oh yes, his guide is vair useful. but where's the fun in being strapped up in a seatbelt like that?
mmm so much to explore in space! :D
anne, pls dig up who his gf is. nak tau jugak mak ngah.
Some people enjoy being "tied up" - seat belts, handcuffs, rope, etc. ;)
