MI CASA

Yesterday evening, the chatty guy who came to service our water treatment system commented that we have a beautiful house. We get that all the time, and some Chinese folks who passed by believed that our village house has good feng shui, that one time, an elderly man offered my grandmother a good sum of cash for one of her trees planted in the front part of our yard (the tree has been chopped down since!)

I looked around my house and sighed. That guy probably didn't see our laundry hanged all over the hall and dining area, or cobwebs high up on the ceilings, or the the dust on, erm... everywhere. I know that the house needs a lot of work and maintenance. But what it needs most right now is some home furnishing and new decor to spruce things up a bit. I admit that I suck at interior decorating, big time (which explains the sigh!) It doesn't help that most of the things we have around are hand-me-downs and giveaway furniture, thanks to out generous families. Our prominent home accessories consist of bags of all kinds hanged all over the dining place, a huge torch light (in case of a black out), a desk lamp in the kitchen (we ran out of ideas on where to put it, so it stays there) and vaporizing mosquito repellents on every possible power socket.

If I need to do start, I'll probably start with the bedroom with some new bed linens and beddings. If I'm gonna spend a lot of money on the house, then I'd better get some good sleep at night. Apart from being the favourite part of the house, I remember that as I child, I used to pore over old decor magazines of my mom's and fantasize of having a beautiful bedroom all by myself (instead of having to share it with our helper) with soft bed pillows, goosedown comforters and maybe some lavender thereupatic pillows.

But I know I don't have to rely on magazines now that home furnishing ideas and a good directory on the net is easily accessible. I need all the tips and guides that I need. *sigh*
