FISHY STORY

Posted by Picasa picasa rawks :p

Before you go- eh where in heaven's name did Raggedyanne go and got this sad looking, sorry excuse for a gourmet dish and even had the gall to post it in her blog? Who does she think she is, 5xmom?

Haaa... before you even scrutinize & try to guess what's THAT on my plate, please be informed that I COOKED that, OK. It was a feat & I'm proud of it, no matter how untasty or unappealing it looks.

No, I'm not trying to outdo our dear Kak Trin who finally has her own food blog now, and certainly not a Moby wannabe by posting up digitally enhanced food pics to cover up my own inability to compose a decent photo. I have a disoderly-behaving tot tugging at my pants who really, really, REALLY wanted THAT platter, OK.

Right, stop wondering already *rolls eyes*. From top 12 o'clock: potatoes in butter sauce, grilled tomatoes & cheese, cabbage & carrot coleslaw (my what a tongue-twister) and pan-grilled dory topped with cheese. btw, I found out that it is actually John Dory and I find that rather rib-tickling :D

It took me great courage and will power, you know. I whipped this up while Nunu, who started out fine & dandy eating her raisin & cornflakes in her seat (while making a whole lotta mess nice decoration on the floor, whad'ya expect), gradually got bored & cranky & kept hollering & whining for me to pick her up. I bought time by going to her (I wasn't even out of her sight, but my! she's demanding!) and letting her feed ME instead, coz clearly she wasn't interested in counting raisins anymore.

So to & fro I went, from Nunu to the stove, letting her pop a raisin or two in my mouth, entertaining and enjoying her short-lived giggles and at the same time, watching the pan before anything becomes charcoal (that happens a lot)

I prepared the table, complete with napkins and 'sirap orenggo-morenggo'! but was let down by Martian who called and said he wasn't interested in dory-mory sumer ni and will buy himself nasik paprik on his way home. Maybe he anticipated a potentially catastrophic dinner.

Suits you, lah! Took some pictures of it to show him what he missed.

Not that I like taking photos of every single dish I make. I would have cold food by the time I give up & decide none of the pics are good enough to be published. Buat malu kompeni je. No no. I'm no glorified food blogger :)

Besides, if I AM trying to turn this space into a food blog, then I would have showed you guys the heavenly trifles I made for Boy's makan beradab :)

Nunu, my only jury, who suddenly became as voracious as a lion cub (dulu kecik2 macam anak burung :) declared "Dap, dap, dap..." while giving me vigorous, convincing nods.

Sedap lah tu ..... :)

Anywaaaaaaaaaaay.... I believe nobody will dare ask me for the recipe (like there is one *shakes head*).

I must get Ajab to ask Nunu what it tasted like (since only they can talk to each other). By the way she's nodding so enthusiastically, I gather that it tastes quite good. Cook more of this stuff for her lah. Sure besar macam paus nanti (or at least besar macam Giant). :D

Martian dowan to try ah? Ish, ish, ish .... dory sedap u! I like!!

moby, she likes it VERY much. Cooked some for her yesterday & mixed with rice, rasanya 3 senduk nasik habis kot. That's a lot!

mynn, thanks! i love compliments *shoots mynn*

hana, a few other things too. We are encouraging her to talk now & looks like she's catching on fast. Hope no more regressions after this

ms, are you SERIOUS??? you take the words of a 13-month old tot?

hi cik cady! oooh i have a silent reader rupanya! eh next time u jgn la senyap2, make some noise here in the comment box ok?

but then, you all sumer jgnlah tertipu ngan the dory pic. Nampak je apa? tempting ye, but actually the fish dah split into 2 when i lifted it out from the pan!

But cady, if u genuinely wanna cook for ur family, it's actually pretty easy. I'll put the recipe (konon jer recipe) in an entry later for u ok?

:) Whether it's tasty or otherwise, yang penting the food was prepared & cooked with LOVEEEE, Anne!!!! Iman & Ihsan always respond with a "Sedap, Mummy" comment whenever I cook on weekends. And I'm enjoying it while it lasts!!!! Kalau dah besar and dah accquire better tastes, jangan harap I'll hear such 'truthful' comments anymore.....

kak arlynn, i agree. Our hati kembang kuncup ek when kids compliments our cooking. by the time my kids besar, i hope i've reached the level 'accomplished domestic chef'. On 2nd thought, maybe martian will want that position :)

haneymum, haha, if it looks good on photo, tak tentu lagi sedap ye tak? Alamak, haney so clever & 'honest' hor.

Have to practice la nak jadi mama ni, cannot give up so easily. Not to bow to certain societal norm tht moms should be great cooks, but it gives you great feeling and saticfaction if your cooking is actually edible :)
