NEBULIZED & NEURALYZED

Upon our return from our raya trip to Taiping that Sunday evening, Nunu developed a temperature, tiny whimpers & wheezy breaths. Which got my mother worried because she was exposed to the wet Taiping weather & stayed too long in the air-conditioned car (though I was sure she was bundled up real tight in her sweater coz I didn't want her to catch cold.)

I was pretty worried too because Nunu was unusually lethargic and floppy after a feed, while she did appear to be asleep, she opened up her eyes every now and then, blinked at me & slipped back into unconsciousness (hehe, too much ah this word?). It's unusal for me, because I'm so used to her abundant energy & fussy sleeping patterns (she'd usually want her nen-nen back in her mouth if her nap is disturbed).

Which got me thinking, "Oh dear, here we go again."

We rushed to the specialist clinic nearby (because it'd be closed in an hour) where my mom does locum at and we straight away (read: cut the queue) met Dr. Rosnah. She checked Nunu's ears (and confirmed she was hot and has a fever) and lungs and said something about 'crap' or 'grab' or something2, I don't know, medical lingo (mynn, help me out here?), and suggested that Nunu to be on the nebulizer to open up her nasal passages a bit. Mom agreed on that too and I just nodded in agreement because I just didn't want her condition to worsen.

My brave little Darth Vader, still in her baju raya.

Soooo... I was glad she didn't make a scene. I totally underestimate my child (yet again!). She was such a good girl & let herself be gassed for 10 minutes :) Gawd, those times when I saw some kids being on the nebulizer at Dr. Ho's & silently thanked Allah it didn't has to be Nunu... well, thanks babe, for not making this any harder on me.

Mom took out her stethoscope (yeah, I had to spellcheck this word :D), listened to her breathing & made a thumbs-up sign.

Other than the nebulizer session, the trip was rather uneventful - except for this rather pleasant find!

Eh, who are those 'muka posters', ek?

The nurses were very nice to let me have the booklet. Kenang-kenangan la konon. Bakal besan la katakan. LOL.

Each time we're back from the clinic, kalau tak bawak balik at least 4 types of ubat, memang tak sah! This time we got ubat demam, ubat batuk, ubat paru-paru/penat & lastly some antibiotics (sedap sikit from Dr. Ho's expensive gila Zithromax, I hope it works better.)

The current medication are in the upper red box. Those in the pink basket are Nunu's collection of past medication. Ubat demam, ubat selsema, ubat gatal, ubat allergy, ubat sapu, Cool Fever, Blue Fever, you name it, we have it. But that yellow-green packet there, that's my year-old lobak asin, hehe. Ok, time to chuck it out into the bin.

Uncooperative was the best word to describe Nunu when it's time for her medication. WAS, because she's kinda loosen up a bit these just last night, thanks to our tricks. Later on that. Lemme tell you about Nunu's detest of her ubat & how difficult it was to give her doses. Other than the usual screamings & the tears, the occasional tight fist slapping the dropper from her face, Nunu would start her defense just as I could say, "Nunu, let's take your ubat. Yumm yummm.." and her whole face would drop in a 'sebek' & 'penyek' expression & start sobbing.

The dropper barely touched her lips and she would make gagging sounds and the contents of her little tummy will spill forth in an amazing projectile. If we're even luckier, she would barf out after we've finished with all four medication. Then we had to force her to take them again. I'm OK with this. I'm not complaining. I understand it's part & parcel of raising a kid and we have to be extra patient and not loose your cool.

Martian, of course made a big stink about it. Kept going on and on and ON about how we should have gone to this other clinic his friend recommends (which he insisted we went out to look for that very Sunday night & thank god, the clinic was closed) for the sole reason that the doctor dispenses pre-mixed medication for kids (all the ubat campur2 in one bottle- nak bagi senang telan). Nowwww, I don't know about you guys, but I don't have a good feeling about this practice. That's why I was absolutely glad the clinic was closed that night :)

Now, what trick did we use to get Nunu take her doses? Nothing earth-shattering really, we just let her hold something we don't usually let her, like Martian's keys or wallet or my shiny brooch and made really awfully silly & loud monkey acts in front of her to distract her mind off the yucky ubats.

Most of the time, Martian acts so clownish, I was the one giggling so hard while slowly injecting the syrup through Nunu's puckered but unresisting lips. We'll all feel so marvelous after it's over and shouted "Nunu clever! Nunu clever!" and perform a little dance while Nunu would give us a tiny baffled smile like, "Why are my parents acting so weird??"

She's spared from further misery of having bonkers folks and was blissfully drugged, snuffly breaths aside. I hope she forgets about the whole 'makan ubat' episode as we're counting on using the same trick again tonight.

Big fat fingers and 'landai' nostrils :)

i think the sound that could be heard is called "crackles" or "crepitations" (both are interchangeable and mean the same thing). what the sound indicates are among others a chest infection.

so makan antibiotics lah nunu, kesian dengar her story! i could relate when amar had his asthma attack we were so worried. thank goodness amar has now outgrown his asthma.
